Rational Numbers

A rational number is any number which can be expressed as the ratio of two integer numbers. For example, 1/2, 7/8 and 13/7. It is important to remember that not all rational numbers can be written exactly as a decimal number - 1/9 = 0.11111111... and similarly that a decimal number such as 0.88888888... should not be disregarded as a rational number just because it cannot be written exactly as a decimal number. The symbol rational is used to represent the set of rational numbers.
